How to make it
Simmer 15 g 莲子 (cores removed if you dislike bitterness) with rice into a soft congee, 40 min. Add 6–10 g 龙眼肉 in the last 10 minutes. Eat warm, 1–2 h before bed.
Why it works
A warm, low-fat, tryptophan-bearing carbohydrate meal in the evening is a plausible, mild sleep aid on general nutrition grounds — that is the honest part of this.
Classical source
莲子 is 上品 in the Shennong Bencao Jing as 藕實莖 — 補中養神,益氣力.
Cautions: Astringent — go easy with constipation or marked bloating. 龙眼 is sweet and warming; skip if you run hot or are managing blood sugar. Persistent insomnia, or insomnia with low mood, deserves a clinician.
