Licorice extract for dark spots 甘草提取物淡斑

Skin — Clarity & Even Tone 护肤·淡斑·提亮 early evidence
What the evidence says:
Topical licorice extract (glabridin/liquiritin) inhibits the pigment enzyme tyrosinase; small clinical studies show it helps melasma and hyperpigmentation. Encouraging — one of the better-evidenced botanical brighteners — but modest and slow.

How to make it

Use a formulated serum/cream standardised for licorice extract (glabridin) — not raw kitchen licorice. Pair with sunscreen; results take 8–12 weeks.

Why it works

Works alongside evidence-based actives: vitamin C, niacinamide, azelaic acid.

Classical source

Licorice appears in classical 玉容 (jade-face) brightening formulas.

Cautions: Patch-test. Botanical brighteners are gentler and slower than prescription options — see a dermatologist for stubborn melasma.
